Accounting and finance student Lisa starts boxing lessons at Uni of Brighton gym
Lisa is a qualified England Boxing Coach at Brighton & Hove Boxing club, who also studies on our Accounting and Finance BSc(Hons) degree.
She has been boxing for around five years and gained her coaching qualification in 2019.
“Boxing breaks down a lot of barriers,” says Lisa. She remembers when her foundation year peers found out she does boxing.
“Suddenly I could connect with 19-year-old lads in my class who I didn’t have much in common with before.”
Lisa noticed the university’s gym didn’t offer boxing and saw an opportunity to link up with Sport Brighton – Brighton uni’s sport and recreation services.
Brighton & Hove Boxing Club are now offering weekly boxing sessions with students at the Moulsecoomb gym and fitness studio every Thursday at 10am. Book your place over on the Sport Brighton website.
Their first session took place on 17 November.
“With the first session being immediately after reading week and during exams, we appreciated it was a tall order but were lucky to have a small group join us.
“The participants were all studying something different, which was nice to see friendships across different subjects.
“We did a gentle warm up and worked on some technical drills, and finished off with bag work and pads. The group really enjoyed the session and we look forward to seeing them, and some new faces, next week.”
Lisa is a big advocate for doing something physical to help you stay focused and motivated.
“Don’t get bogged down with only sitting at a screen. Get some movement in to your daily routine, even if it’s just going for a walk.”
