University of Brighton Legal Clinic welcome event for new students, supervising lawyers and academics
Earlier this month our University of Brighton Legal Clinic hosted their welcome drinks for a new cohort of student volunteers, and the team of lawyers and academics who will be supporting them.
The pro bono legal clinic provides our community with free legal advice from our Brighton Law School students, who gain qualifying work experience from volunteering. It’s a rewarding and career-enhancing opportunity for third-year law students and postgraduate law students to gain experience of working on live legal matters.
Jane Woods, Director of the University of Brighton Legal Clinic and practising solicitor, said: “It was fantastic to get our students together with our team of volunteer supervisors and academic supervisors, who all commit their time generously to provide high-quality pro bono legal advice, at a time when such advice can be difficult to obtain for many.”
Richard Ager, barrister for 1 Crown Office Row in Brighton and co-founder of the clinic, added: “It was a great evening and a pleasure to speak to so many well-motivated students, and to meet other supervisors and academics.
“Clinic is an invaluable experience for law students, equipping them with client-facing skills that make them more attractive to prospective employers.
“It’s also a vital community resource, and both myself and 1 Crown Office Row, Brighton, are delighted to support this fantastic resource.”
