Event Management students’ successful Chestnut Tree House fundraising event

As part of our International Event Management degree students take part in live client projects, allowing them to experience managing real events whilst supporting businesses in designing and/or promoting events.

On Saturday 20 March, a group of our students organised and ran a successful fundraising event for Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice, raising over £800.

The group, who named themselves ‘Elaborate Events’ organised an online Children’s Author event which included a reading from leading children’s author M.G. Leonard.  Tickets were priced at £5 per family ticket or £10 for a ticket and a signed copy of Beetle Boy by the author.

Grant Phillips, Community Fundraiser (Brighton & Hove) at Chestnut Tree House said, “On behalf of everyone at Chestnut Tree House, thank you for raising a fantastic £848.40 by way of your online book reading event with M.G. Leonard. This incredible amount will make a huge difference to the children and families we support in our communities.

“All our services – either at the House or in the families homes – are provided free of charge and, with very little statutory funding, we rely heavily on the generosity of supporters such as yourselves. Many congratulations on organising such a successful event and thank you very much for having us as your chosen charity.

“From everyone at Chestnut Tree House we wish you all the very best in your studies, you have great futures ahead of you.’

Chloe Grayling one of the students from the group said: “As a group, we couldn’t be prouder of the event we organised and conducted. The overall event was a success and we thoroughly enjoyed constructing it and watching it play out. Our attendees were impressed and walked away satisfied with the overall outcome of the event, many of which agreed they would attend an event like ours again, which we couldn’t be more pleased about.

“Not only was the event a huge success but we managed to raise over £800 in ticket sales and further donations for Chestnut Tree Hospice children’s hospice, an amazing hospital that cares for 300 children and young adults across Sussex; so, this was a real achievement to be proud of “.

Congratulations Mandy Curtis and Michael Williams, our International Event Management lecturers and all of the students involved.
