Lecturer encourages Sussex business exports
Dr Clifford Conway on behalf of University of Brighton’s Business School attended the Sussex International Trade Forum (SITF) with some of his fellow committee members Ana Christie Chief Executive, Sussex Chamber of Commerce and Lev Denker, Trade Advisor for Dept of International Trade.
The role of the SITF committee is to plan and run events to encourage greater levels of export performance especially in this era of Brexit. The University of Brighton has been a long-standing member of the Sussex Chamber of Commerce and with the Forum has run a number of recent events featuring a range of opportunities and issues faced by new and experienced Sussex exporters ranging from the implications of VAT on exporting activity, Exporting into South East Asia, implications of Brexit and a profile of the support services provided by the Department for International Trade.
Dr. Conway cites a number of sectors where Sussex companies lead the way: “Sussex has a fine reputation for the export of quality food and drink with some high quality sparkling wines and cheeses, to financial and business services to specialist motor engine research and green technologies and of course in particular the University has also played a key role in recruiting and training international students”.
With the Brexit negotiations now reaching critical stages of conclusion the role of exporting will become event more critical for the economy of not just Sussex but for the whole of the UK.
