European learning
University of Brighton Business School MSc Management students recently experienced first-hand international management learning, taking them out of the classroom to visit companies and institutions in Europe.
The group led by Barry Lee-Scherer, Principal Lecturer at the Business School, attended a session at the European Parliament and met with an elected member of the parliament, Timothy Kirkhope who later tweeted about the meeting (see below).
Mr Kirkhope is the Government Spokesman and ECR Coordinator for Justice and Home Affairs, dealing with issues such as surveillance, cyber crime, border control and immigration, data protection and child rights.
The MEP spent 30 minutes providing the group with an inside view of the working of the Parliament as well as background on the important issues being debated in that day’s session, and discussing questions raised by the students.
The MSc Management group included students from France, Taiwan, Pakistan, Germany, Libya, Thailand, Belgium, Colombia, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, China, the USA and Kuwait.
A member of the group commented, “The trip has been excellent and very enlightening, giving me an insight and understanding of how the European parliament works that would have been difficult to discover just from reading about it.”
