Brighton Business School Law Network launch
We were delighted to see more than 70 alumni, current students, business people and staff gather for the launch of the Brighton Business School Law Network on 20 March at Mithras House.
Professor Aidan Berry, dean for Brighton Business School, welcomed attendees who included judges, lawyers and business experts, before handing over to the evening’s host, Zoe Swan, course leader and senior lecturer. Zoe set up the law network to maximise the opportunities for current students, alumni and industry professionals to exchange knowledge and best practice to promote lifelong learning.
The evening also yielded some great results with alumni and consultants offering to mentor current students. Emma Vankova, final year Law with Business LLB(Hons) student said: “I thought this was a great networking opportunity and a chance to learn about the careers experience of the alumni from our university. It was a good way to improve our communication skills too.”
Hospitality for the event was generously sponsored by two local law practitioners, Lynne Passmore and Jo O’Sullivan who both attended the event and volunteered as mentors to our students.
Commenting on the value of the network, Zoe said: “An active network like this has the capacity to make a real difference to our offer, will also support employability and career development, as well as keep our graduates engaged in lifelong learning.”
Zoe plans to release a programme of events which heads of local chambers (James King-Smith, 1COR, Brighton and Jeffrey Lamb, Westgate Chambers, Lewes) have committed to participating in. Maximising input from these professionals and sharing their knowledge will inspire current students.
