In this BBC 4 programme, English photographer Rankin looks at seven iconic photographs that changed fashion as we know it. Rankin researches and produces modern day equivalents of famous fashion photographs. One of the photos Rankin chooses to recreate is Erwin Blumenfeld’s surrealism inspired Vogue cover of Lisa Patchett. Rankin used Heidi Klum in Patchett’s place, she adds a modern day twist as the original expression is more alluring than playful like Klum’s. Rankin dissects every photograph he features; this is helpful because it allows the audience to understand the semiotics of the photographs.
