Sarah Graham artist workshop.

We had an amazing day on Saturday at our artist teacher day.

The fabulous, photorealist artist Sarah Graham delivered an honest and inspirational workshop for our UBATO members. Sarah is recognised for her sweet paintings and the Kaiser Chiefs album.

slide from the presentation featuring a montage of imagesSarah started the day speaking about her journey as an artist and how her artwork has evolved over time into the classic style we are now familiar with and use in schools to inspire students.

Sarah then led a group drawing workshop, which led into her demonstrating her own painting process. Our artist teachers all created a canvas painting inspired by one of Sarah’s own images.

The results from the workshop were incredible as you can see from the photographs. But more importantly there were interesting discussion between teachers and the artist about painting approaches and the importance of art on our mental wellbeing.

Sarah is a huge advocate for art and design education and does a lot of work with the NSEAD to raise its profile in school.

Senior lecturer Julie Howard said: “I know the impact of Sarah’s workshop will go much further than simply the canvases that were created. The day was fabulous, a great atmosphere was created, as we all felt in awe of Sarah and her artwork.

“We were very lucky to have Sarah join us for this workshop. She is already used as a relevant artist in our schools to inspire our students, but I think after today we might see even more young people influenced by her incredible work.

“We have two fantastic artist teacher days for the next academic year as we can see first-hand how important they are for everyone involved.”

Membership is now open for the 2023/24 academic year – find out how you can join UBATO.
