Cas Holmes workshop
On Saturday 25 November, the fabulous textile artist, Cas Holmes delivered an artist teacher workshop to UBATO members.
The focus of the workshop was working to the theme of ‘improvised sketchbooks’. There was deliberately no prescribed outcome expected from the workshop – the emphasis was on the process of creating, responding and reflecting in an evolving ‘sketchbook’ format.
Cas wanted the emphasis to be on the ‘why?’ as an artist, as well as introducing some of her ‘how?’ techniques and processes which the members experienced independently, as they considered how they might introduce into their classrooms.
Participants were also encouraged to bring in their own students’ sketchbooks so the group could share how the techniques are utilised in school.
The whole day was amazing and everyone came away feeling inspired by the introduction of some new and fresh approaches, which had forced participants to reflect on the how and why of how they use sketchbooks both as artists and in school with their students.
Participants also received a free copy of the Cas Holmes catalogue.
Some quotes from the day:
- “Really enjoyed the day, friendly, creative and it made me think hard about what I teach, how and why.”
- “The sketchbooks are a useful tool to keep focus and watch the artwork evolve. I loved the whole day!”
- “New ideas helped to release my creativity as an artist once more, just what I needed today, I shall share these tips with my students.”
- “I loved keeping the ideas flowing, as I isolated sections and developed others into something new – something I want to bring to my students now.”
Another brilliant day for UBATO that is going from strength to strength.
