October workshop
We were very excited to welcome back returning and new UBATO members to this year’s first CPD workshop day.
What better way to kick start the October half term, than a day to be inspired by new art and design techniques!
Nine workshop were on offer throughout the day ranging from glass fusion, gelli printing, batik, paint splatter, creating an alternative self portrait, screen printing, working with Modroc and developing oracy in art lessons. The whole day was buzzing with creative excitement and the sharing of knowledge in a warm and friendly environment.
Some schools were invited to display examples of artwork from their settings – always appreciated by members as a way to share project ideas and best practice.
We were also lucky enough to be joined by two special guests. Artist Kirsten Britt introduced her unique technique of working with coloured biros to create portraits and Brighton-based arts company Leap then Look shared their intentions for arts projects they want to deliver in local schools.
We also launched our new forum, where we discussed the controversial issue of assessment in art and design and discussed different ways that schools and departments navigate this, so that they meet the school demands on data and performance, yet retain the unique opportunity for creativity and self-expression in our beloved subject.
The whole day was hugely enjoyable and visibly beneficial for everyone involved.
We cannot wait for the next UBATO day, which is delivered by the Textile Artist Cas Holmes on November 25. A limited number of tickets for the Cas Holmes workshop are available to non-members.
