What is Slack?
Slack is a web application, desktop application and mobile app which enables collaboration. It is a third-party application which can be used with a free account and it is perfect for events like the sandpit. We do recommend that you review their privacy policy and terms of service, as with any third-party application that you might use in your teaching, learning or digital practice. Details of data handling in Slack1, the University of Brighton’s data protection policy2 and data protection officer’s details3 are included at the below.
How are we using Slack as part of the UA Sandpit?
Slack is being used for collaboration, discussion and team work during the Sandpit event. It will enable your team to answer poll questions, submit materials and to respond to questions. Fiona MacNeill is the lead on the Slack workspace and can answer any questions you have. She is assisted by our custom slackbot who you can answer your questions, for instance if you ask for ‘help’ this will happen…
Tips:
- Ask any question you like about the event
- Use “@” to tag a person or an organiser. E.g. @John Canning
- Use emojis because they make life a bit more fun
How to join the UA Sandpit Slack site
You may use a personal email address if you would prefer not to use your work address, but do ensure that you include your name in a format that will allow us to identify who you are. E.g. If you are called Joseph Bloggs, then JBloggs is okay and Joe B is okay, but JoBlawesome probably is not okay.
