Advance HE Collaborative Development Fund: Future Spaces
The University of Brighton has been awarded £4000 by Advance HE to look at the future of student learning in 2035 and how this will be shaped by immersive digital environments. It is one of 6 institutions awarded funding in the Future Student Experience strand of the highly competitive Collaborative Development Fund stream of work.
The university is representing its mission group University Alliance and the lead (Fiona Handley) is working in partnership with colleagues at the University of Greenwich (Mazia Yassim), Anglia Ruskin University (Alex Moseley) and Birmingham City University (Craig Tucker). All the partners have a track record in exploring virtual reality and immersive learning, and a commitment to ensure that the students in its mission group benefit from the opportunities that immersive environments bring in terms of access to education, student support, and engaging learning experiences.
The project will involve desk-based research, interviews with 8 key experts in the field and a sandpit to explore 4 strands identified by the team: The Future of Belonging, Future Pace and Place of Learning, Future Media: Thinking, Creating, Engaging, and Future Professionals, exploring trajectories in social, technological, financial and environmental disruptors and drivers.
The final project report and infographics will contribute to an Advance HE toolkit on the Future Student Experience that aims to help higher education institutions in big picture planning for 2035. The project will be released by Advance HE in summer 2022.
