Monday 19 September – National holiday
Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the UK government has declared Monday 19 September a public holiday. This will be the day of the state funeral and the last day of the period of national mourning.
In line with other bank holidays, all University buildings including libraries and sports facilities will be closed, and timetabled teaching activities and any University events will be rescheduled. Any teaching currently timetabled for 19 September will be rescheduled and online timetables updated. Please keep an eye out for further communications from your School and check your timetable via My Brighton.
For many of us, the state funeral will be an opportunity to reflect on a truly remarkable life spent in public service. If you’re living in halls, our accommodation teams will let you know of any arrangements to allow you to come together with others for the 8pm minute’s silence on Sunday and funeral itself on the Monday.
Please continue to be kind and respectful to each other during this time.
Best wishes,
Professor Debra Humphris, Vice-Chancellor
