University of Brighton’s 1000th solar panel
230 new solar panels have recently been installed at Varley Park, reducing carbon emissions by around 25 tonnes.
This installation will bring the total number of solar panels installed on University of Brighton buildings to over one thousand – when combined with the 132 panels installed on the Cockcroft building in 2012, and the 663 panels installed at Falmer last Christmas.
These panels combined produce 276,000kWh electricity annually, reducing the university’s carbon emissions by 114 tonnes per annum – the equivalent to the emissions of 23 UK homes’ annual energy consumption!
Following the successful installation at Varley Park, the university and Brighton Energy Cooperative are now looking at possible sites for further solar installations across the university estate, and are currently investigating potential roofs in Eastbourne.
