A day in the life of Harry

Harry is one of our amazing ambassadors who you might see helping out around uni at events and open days.

There’s an ambassador for everything; they’re used for summer schools, open days, visitor tours, lectures from alumni and on social media.

“When you’re a student, you have the freedom to try out new things. You get new experiences. You learn life lessons.

Being a student ambassador gives you all of that, with the chance to add new skills to your CV and gain a valuable reference.

Course-specific jobs can have you showing off your knowledge whilst putting your skills into practice. Working with student support services means you know all about the grants and support that you’re entitled to!From open days to moving in weekends, house hunting days  and Christmas carol concerts – you have the freedom to work whenever you want, doing whatever you want. If you have deadlines, you don’t have to work. If you need the extra cash, you can apply for every job. It really is up to you.

Ambassadors are employed to provide information about student life and nobody knows that better than students. It’s a brilliant opportunity to talk. Talk about interests, work and accommodation. Your travels, money and social life. Talk to new people; whether they’re other students at other campuses, staff or parents, they all want to know about you and what you are doing during this fascinating time. Just talking to people gives you a massive confidence boost.

ambassadorsOpen days are by far the most popular jobs to work. The variety of jobs really is mixed. Directing people to buildings, registration, greeting people, working with support services, giving tours, giving talks, course tasters, handing out goodies – the list goes on. The number of hours you do varies on the job as well as the number of people attending the event.

Deciding to be a student ambassador was definitely one of the best decisions I made when I started here. Not only does the extra cash do my wallet some good but it’s also been beneficial in so many other ways!”
