Profesional Practise.

5th October 2016

The first speaker for the professional practise lecture was Chris Riddell. He is a well known Illustrator who was a former student at the University of Brighton. One of the first thing that he showed us was a small drawing in his sketchbook of a pair of jeans. He then explained why he drew those jean and they had a whole story behind it. I was interesting how one little sketch can remind you of a previous memory, like a visual diary. He also explained how it’s important to do work for yourself; always carry a sketchbook with you and whenever you feel inspired. The last thing Riddle demonstrated was how he enjoys drawing to music and how he aims to finish the sketch when the song ends. This seem like a fun activity to try as I am very invested in both drawing and music. Overall, I found the lecture very enjoyable lecture and also helpful as I hope that after graduating that I will also have a carer as a children’s book illustrator.

First Crit.

4th October 2016

The first crit I had ever had, not knowing what to expect at all and I had to go first! One of the worst experiences of my life of three reasons:

  1. I hate presenting my work to others, especially people that I have never met.
  2. I had no idea what to do/ say and I became extremely uncomfortable.
  3. I didn’t like the project because it was about ‘Self’ and being a very insecure person I did not find it a fun experience.

The problem that I have is that I am not good at verbally explaining my ideas or reasonings behind what I have done. I always write notes about my work so I am able to keep on track and not to become confused. However, because I was so nervous I forgot to get my notes out of my bag so I felt like I was rambling and didn’t explain what I was trying to achieve with my piece of work.

Drawing Upon Inspiration

3rd October 2016

The first solo project was set today which is ‘Drawing Upon Inspiration’. I was very eager to start this brief I really enjoy creating sketches and drawing of themes that I find interesting. I also decided that I would start off doing quick sketches and then work on developing my idea using different mediums, all presented in an A5 sketchbook.      img_1042

First Day!

My first day at uni wasn’t too bad actually! Im not a very sociable person so meeting new people on the course was quite daunting, However there was a few people that seemed nice. I was put into a group and given the first brief which was ‘ice breaker’. I was not too happy about this because I HATE socialising! but I knew I had to get out my comfort-zone.

Planning & Decisions

Our group for the ‘Ice breaker’ came up with the idea to have a silent dinner party. each person in the group would bring some food that they made and we would communicate but drawing onto a table cloth. I thought this was a great idea as I would not need to worry about having an awkward with anyone.

Day of the Ice breaker!

So the dinner party did not go as planned. It was not silent but we all agreed that it could get very weird to sit in silence just eating and drawing. Some peoples food turned out great and others was… not so great. However, the table cloth was a great success! Everyone got involved and it look awesome. I also collected my uni card on this day, I felt I was an official university student!14585777_911534495646640_1727422238_o
