Explain- Human

Evolution of The Human Skull:

For my explain project I chose to produce work looking at the study of evolution. I drew the evolution of the human skull. I chose to draw on discoloured paper to give my work a more authentic look. When I selected the images that I drew from I was very particular of what I drew form. I only chose  images of really skulls so I would capture a more realistic result. I would have liked to have had the piece of work framed but because of the size of the drawings the piece of work as a whole it too large.

Sketchbook:

I have also done some smaller sketches alongside research of the different evolutionary species of man. This gave me a better understanding of what and how the different skulls are different. such as, more prominent brow bones, longer faces ect… this really helped me when drawing my larger skulls because it made me aware about the distinct futures of the species.

Explain The Unexplained

They are among us. Blood-drinking, flesh-eating, shape-shifting extraterrestrial reptilian humanoids with only one objective in their cold-blooded little heads: to enslave the human race. They are our leaders, our corporate executives, our beloved Oscar-winning actors and Grammy-winning singers, and they’re responsible for the Holocaust, the Oklahoma City bombings and the 9/11 attacks … at least according to former BBC sports reporter David Icke, who became the poster human for the theory in 1998 after publishing his first book, The Biggest Secret, which contained interviews with two Brits who claimed members of the royal family are nothing more than reptiles with crowns. (Picture Dracula meets Swamp Thing).

The conspiracy theorist and New Age philosopher, who wore the only turquoise for a time and insisted on being called Son of God-Head, says these “Annunaki” (the reptiles) have controlled humankind since ancient times; they count among their number Queen Elizabeth, George W. Bush, Henry Kissinger, Bill and Hillary Clinton and Bob Hope. Encroaching on other conspiracy theorists’ territory, Icke even claims that the lizards are behind secret societies like the Freemasons and the Illuminati. Since earning the dubious title of “paranoid of the decade” in the late 1990s, Icke has written several books on the topic, including his latest work, The David Icke Guide to the Global Conspiracy, while operating his own website — complete with merchandise and advertisements.

When Worlds Collide.

Gothic Horror and Toys

For this brief, I chose to create a children’s toy magazine but with a gothic twist. I was inspired but Tim burton’s animated films, especially ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’; creating something that is targeted towards children but with a ‘dark’ elements. I really enjoyed this brief and I was happy with the work I produce; printing the pages out and making the book myself made me appreciate what accomplished with this brief.

3. Animal- Continuous change

In these posters, I wanted to show how animals have become more domesticated by continuous change in their lives. The first image is a squirrel that has become comfortable accepting food from people in the park. The symbol is a squirrel looking for food how they would normally forage. The second image demonstrates how after time and through the continuous change in the environment and life animals have become dependent and trusting of humans.

2. Mineral-Visualize what you can’t see.

These posters are showing the minerals that’s in water. I draw the chemical structures of the minerals into the water to show that it is part of the water thus being able to ‘visualize what you can’t see’. I also added the equations that creates the minerals just to add another way that you could visualize them.

  1. Vegetable- Artifical v Natural

These A2 posters demonstrate how nature is being taken over by people destroying areas to build on. I chose to show the transition from natural to artificial by firstly my photographs of the trees in the center of the poster. The first image there is a tree accompanied by other trees on the sides. The next image its just one stand alone tree; the last image is one tree but with buildings in the background. This shows that gradually there is becoming less nature until eventually, it starts becoming artificial. Secondly, the symbols I drew are all trees. They start with all the lines connected to show it untouched. Then the lines start to become detached yet still grounded to show that it becoming interrupted. This results in the last symbol becoming detached from the ground as if the tree had been chopped down. Lastly, the images in the background are from leaflets. The first one is set in a forest, the second is a nature park and the last is an amusement park. This shows a gradual transition from natural to artificial.

Compositional Awareness Part 2.

20 Alternative compositions using black and white media.

I created these images by photographing the 30 drawings individually and arranging them in photoshop. I just experimented with the placement, adding and removing the images. Once I was happy with the composition I saved them and went on to the next.

This is my favourite composition I produced. Although I like the ‘busy’ images I really like the use of negative space and the simplicity of this image.

I would like to develop these images in the future, I think it would be interesting to add some colour in certain areas.

30 Drawings:

1.Animal

Pen and wash drawings.

2.Mineral

Line work using a range of pens so that I could achieve different line thicknesses.

3.Vegetable

Pencil drawings.

I chose to use different media for each set of drawing so once I start to combine them for the second part of this brief  it will be clear to see which category the images are from.

Book Arts Rotation.

Book 1:

This was a really quick and simple book to make. It only requires folding and one cut in the middle of the paper.

Book 2:

This book was a little more time consuming, but worth the effort for a more sophisticated looking book. I found this very helpful and I will be using this technique in future projects.

Book 3:

These books are my favourites out of the three. I think this an easy yet rewarding technique to learn. I was very proud after making these book. I also found it really enjoyable to continued to make a few of them.
