The first speaker for the professional practise lecture was Chris Riddell. He is a well known Illustrator who was a former student at the University of Brighton. One of the first thing that he showed us was a small drawing in his sketchbook of a pair of jeans. He then explained why he drew those jean and they had a whole story behind it. I was interesting how one little sketch can remind you of a previous memory, like a visual diary. He also explained how it’s important to do work for yourself; always carry a sketchbook with you and whenever you feel inspired. The last thing Riddle demonstrated was how he enjoys drawing to music and how he aims to finish the sketch when the song ends. This seem like a fun activity to try as I am very invested in both drawing and music. Overall, I found the lecture very enjoyable lecture and also helpful as I hope that after graduating that I will also have a carer as a children’s book illustrator.
