Drawing Upon Inspiration Crit.

24th October 2016

I really liked the work I produced for this brief. However, I don’t think the crit went very well. I had annotated all of my work clearly explaining my intentions and reasoning behind each piece, but the lady that was present for my crit was rushing through my work and not allowing me to follow my structure. This upset me in all honesty because I have difficulty presenting my work to other/ speaking to a group in general. So when I have a way that helps me lightly overcome that obstacle, for me not be able to use it was frustrating! I think that some of the reasonings for certain pieces was missed due to the fact that I felt I was being rushed and under a lot of pressure.

This was my first time going to London and even though I was going to visit the Whitechapel Art Gallery to see the Guerrilla Girls exhibit for my cultural and critical studies essay, I also wanted to do some sight seeing. I really enjoyed seeing part of London.

I found the galley interesting how they tried to display their view/opinions. However, I didn’t agree with how they displayed some of the other art galleries responses which they didn’t agree with. I think due to the controversial aspect of their work, it will make writing an essay a little more interesting.

Lino Print Rotation.

14th October 2016

I have done Lino print in college but it didn’t work out well because I over complicated what I wanted to carve into the Lino. I also wanted my print to fit with the theme of music that I was using in my drawing project. I think my prints worked out well I think the end print is a good representation of the original album cover.

Cartographers of Intrigue.

10th October 2016

This brief was a 2 day group project which we had to research an area in Brighton and create an A1 piece of work base on that area. The location my group had was Madeira Drive (Arches/ Artist’s Quarter). Our group then split into two and each group took turns to staid in the class room and do research on the area; also planning how we could present our piece and then go to Madeira Drive to speak to locals, collect objects and take images.

The group produced a piece that was a gradient map so it would link with the levels within the area. I also represented the different people we spoke to and things we found. I did not enjoy this at all because I didn’t not think the end result was an accurate representation of the kind of work that i would produce. At time the group did not work well as I felt that certain people in the group was not listening to peoples inputs and ‘took charge’. I also think that the end result looked awful due to there was not a lot of time and also everyone has different approaches to doing their work and I think they clashed and made the work look a mess! However, I did like the idea to present it as a gradient map. I was not happy to present this work at all!

First Rotation.

7th October 2016

The first rotation was life drawing. I had never done life drawing before so I was excited to try something new. It took me a few attempts to get used to the pace of work and I think my work and  marks improved as the session when on. I also think that the pencil I used was a lot more restrictive when drawing as it was harder to add the details that I wanted in a short amount of time. I think the thicker graphite pencil and charcoal was a much better and i really like some of the marks that I made.
