Practice partner discussions

  1.  Practice partners support keeping the option of final year students submitting their preference for the final placement as this supports workforce planning.
  2.  March – April no placements used – aim for other courses to have access at this time e.g. Nurse Associates, Return to Practice Nurses and Paramedics.
  3. Practice liaison lecturers to increase visits into practice especially at key times e.g. just prior to assessment of practice book submission, pressure points in service provision e.g. winter.
  4. Practice have confirmed that Children’s nursing students will be able to attend the taught skills sessions on cannulation / venepuncture but they will not be able to practice these skills in placement.
  5. Practice partners to attend welcome week and transition weeks.
  6. Concerns about 4 week period of 5 cohorts out in January 2020 (one off occurrence), suggestions to ease capacity include:
    • Use of coaching modules with year 2 and 3 students coaching year 1 students
    • Use of split placements
    • Use community placements / private / voluntary and independent
    • Alternative practice bases
    • Support student participation in community engagement volunteering
    • Support student participation in international placement
    • Support student participation in elective placement
    • Placement team to review underused areas
