Students should develop an appreciation of assessment and its relationship to learning, therefore they need to gain a conceptual understanding of assessment e.g:
- terminology associated with assessment and feedback
- principles of assessment and feedback
- purposes of assessment and feedback
- types of assessment and feedback including self and peer assessment
- understand university marking criteria and differences between academic levels (4, 5 and 6)
- select and employ the necessary skills for each assessment task
- co-production of assessment with students and service users
Exercises:
- look at past papers in groups to identify which are better and why
- engage with the university marking criteria and ask students how they would assess each learning outcome?
- use extracts of assignments to show the level of achievement against the university marking criteria
- broaden digital literacy skills / other skills that are not formally assessed but implicit in successful learning.
- follow up any Q and A assignment session with an announcement to respond to the whole cohort
- get students from a previous cohort to talk about the assignment
