Micropipetting

Here’s a YouTube video playlist on micropipetting techniques. When you use micropipettes in the lab, please remember to avoid the common mistakes outlined in these videos.

I would emphasise the need to pipette slowly. If you release the plunger too quickly while the pipette tip is in a liquid, the liquid may rush into the body of the micropipette. If this happens, not only would you be pipetting an inaccurate volume, you would also be contaminating the micropipette and even damaging its internal mechanism. These micropipettes are expensive to replace, so please take good care of them.

When you have watched the videos, here is a game that you might want to play to test your knowledge:

Our pipettes

We have the Thermo Scientific Finnpippette F2 series and the Fisherbrand Elite 12-channel pipette in the lab. These pipettes must not be removed from H415 without permission. Please read the following user manuals before using the pipettes.
