Keng had 2 research articles and a book chapter published recently, but didn’t have time to blog about them until now (been too busy addressing more pressing scientific questions!).
- “Towards pain-free diagnosis of skin diseases through multiplexed microneedles: biomarker extraction and detection using a highly sensitive blotting method“ is the result of painstaking work in collaboration with Dr Wing Man Lau and Professor Adrian C. Williams. The research paper, published in Drug Delivery and Translational Research, details a novel approach to rapidly sampling and analysing multiple skin antigens, without needing a biopsy. It represents an important milestone in our goal to develop a cheap yet reliable point-of-care diagnostic tool for skin diseases. The publisher’s version currently sits behind a pay-wall, but a post-review manuscript is available for free here.
- “Metabolic profiling of children undergoing surgery for congenital heart disease“ describes the use of proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H NMR) to construct metabolic profiles for patient stratification, in order to inform treatment decisions at the bedside. The study was led by Dr Nazima Pathan, and we identified cytokines and metabolites with potential prognostic value. The research paper, published in Critical Care Medicine, is open access and so available for all to read at no cost!
- “Skin deep: The basics of human skin structure and drug penetration“ is the introductory chapter in the new book “Percutaneous Penetration Enhancers: Chemical Methods in Penetration Enhancement” (edited by Nina Dragicevic and Howard I. Maibach). If transdermal drug delivery is your thing, you ought to read this book.
