About
Welcome to our Immersive Digital Teaching and Learning space! The purposes of this website are to identify and share good practice, help staff and students find out more about the different types of immersive environments and their strengths and weaknesses, and highlight how immersive environments will develop in the light of the immersive technology boom and the increasingly experience-driven economy.
Immersive and emerging technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR) and Augmented Reality (AR), collectively known as XR, are here to stay and will play a key role in the Metaverse, the next generation internet of immersive and augmented online experiences. From entertainment and gaming to marketing, medicine, construction, aerospace simulations, mental health, and not surprisingly, education, each and every one of these technologies has already started to be used across a variety of industries.
Research and experimentation into innovative pedagogies using these technologies are rapidly developing, and the roles and limits of what we can do with these tools are still being written. This creates a fertile ground of case studies for us to learn from and to be inspired by, and the University of Brighton has started to tap into this emerging and exciting research area. However, the possibilities of where we can go with it can be far greater. Therefore, and ultimately, this website aims to raise awareness of the immersive resources available across our schools and about the immersive media-based projects that have already taken, or that are currently taking, place at our institution. By facilitating access to this information, we are hoping to give opportunities to others to learn from the work of their colleagues, be inspired and share their own expertise and interests. All of which with the purpose of encouraging the enhancement of cross-school collaborations and experimentations through the sharing of knowledge, skills, and resources.
For any inquiries about the website or if interested in sharing your knowledge and expertise, please get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you!
