in the mythological story of Pandora’s box, ‘Elpis’ means ‘hope’.

In the story of Pandora’s box, the box contains ‘all the evils of the world’. My concept for my project is how children are exposed to all that is bad in the world, the news, social media etc, yet we try and protect them from it and ‘hope’ that anything bad that they are exposed to doesn’t have a negative impact on the new generation.

I have been researching in 1950’s derogatory advertisment’s towards women. A lot of advert’s of the time that were selling food, cleaning, kitchen or other domestic products,included a stereotypical image of a ‘house wife’, creating the concept that women should always be at home taking care of the house and children whilst the men are absent. I experimented with the posters to contrast my idea of the woman being a ‘cow’ to the pleasantly portrayed women in the advertisments.

Black and white versions were most effective.
