1950’s sexist advertisments
I have been researching in 1950’s derogatory advertisment’s towards women. A lot of advert’s of the time that were selling food, cleaning, kitchen or other domestic products, included a stereotypical image of a ‘house wife’, creating the concept that women should always be at home taking care of the house and children whilst the men are absent. I experimented with the posters to contrast my idea of the woman being a ‘cow’ to the pleasantly portrayed women in the advertisments.

‘Domesticated Cows’
I began to personify cow’s by combining the human body with a cow’s head. My idea stemmed rom the fact that in the photograph, the young girl seems to be handling the animal as if it was a pet. I then began to play with the idea of a cow being a domestic pet to create humorous, quirky illustrations of these being’s in a domestic setting such as lying on the sofa, eating, smoking, reading and using a mobile phone. When i completed these drawings i made a collage of them and thought of the concept of a woman being referred to as a ‘cow’ in a derogatory manner, i’ve decided to explore this concept further by manipulating my original drawings.
