FINDING INSPIRATION
To begin my sketching and designing process, I found huge inspiration from a pair of cargo trousers I already owned, where they replicated the desired look of the utilitarian style that Ecosew as a brand wanted to achieve.
The khaki green colour was also a huge inspiration as it was the basis of the neutral colour idea that as a group we decided to use, as it a basic colour that matches well with everything.
Additionally, the heavy seam lines, large pockets, buckles, tabs and various buttons was a big part of the trouser which I wanted to take forward into the designing process as again it demonstrated a large utilitarian feel.
Another way I began finding inspiration was to find clothes my friends and family owned to take a good idea on what the most common item in each person’s wardrobe was. A very common piece was a heavy-duty puffer jacket, as they are an essential in a person’s wardrobe. Alongside this, I found that basic blue straight leg jeans, white plain t-shirts and any sort of jumper/sweatshirt was also a common find within wardrobes.
Here is photographed a North Face puffer jacket that I found interesting to gain inspiration from. I investigated how to replicate similar design features from this high-end coat, to put into my own designs as a less expensive version.
