Sustainable Development Goals (Relating to CM4K)

Sustainable development goals – Relating to CM4K

The following is a few of the sustainable development goals that Green Group has focussed on throughout our campaign, using them to relate the importance of the partnership and showing how helpful a community radio station would be to Cham gi Wadu in reaching the SDGs outlined below.
Our group is made up of Environment and Media students, so we thought it would be suitable to focus on some of the SDGs relating to environmental issues. This helped for us to relate to the importance of such a project and allowed us to promote the partnership with urgency and passion!

Although we didn’t directly go to Kenya, raising money allows for the opportunity for others to go and work directly with the community, teaching them the skills and knowledge needed to run a community radio station. The radio station itself will allow the community to relay knowledge and skills between them seamlessly and easily, giving the opportunity for improvements in quality education for everyone in Cham gi Wadu.

One of the key uses for the radio station is to help develop sustainable, productive agriculture. Things such as dairy farming fish farming are important to the people of Cham gi Wadu but are also things the community knows little about. Being able to reach out with a radio station would allow for the necessary agricultural knowledge to be much more accessible to the people of the community, and would lead to the use of more effective and efficient farming methods.

This relates to number 12 of the SDGs. Also, the people of Cham gi Wadu have expressed interest in having their own segment on the radio station where they ‘advise the community on how to plant trees’. Promoting the planting of trees is extremely important in the managing of forests and combatting land degradation, this is one of many environmentally advantageous aspects that have potential with the development of the radio station.

CM4K is a direct example of a global partnership, in which people from different parts of the world, connected by digital media, have come together to help each other and promote the development of each other’s communities. The connection of people both locally and globally is key to implementing all sustainable development goals, and CM4K does this both through the partnership itself and with what the partnership wants to achieve.
