I recently watched the film ‘Bill Cunningham New York’ to gain some inspiration from a film source. I chose to watch this film because I was fascinated by Bill’s passion through the diverse opinions and methods he adopts to taking photographs.
Bill got his camera around the time street style photography emerged. The film captures Bill’s career in fashion photography, predominately street style in New York. Bill describes the “best fashion show [as] on the street, always has been and always will be.” I feel this is reflected in his exciting street photography pages in the New York Times. I felt this could also be inspirational when it comes to thinking about the magazine layout for my my current projects outcome.
Bill enjoys capturing the clothing, the narrative, New York lifestyle and the wearers movement in his photography. A particular aspects which fascinates me about him is that he mentions in the film that he isn’t interested about whose wearing the clothes, its just whether the clothes interest him.
