6pm Joshua Lyon – 5 key lessons for start-up success
Leading on from his wealth of experience across the worlds of finance, innovation and, more recently, Entrepreneurship, Joshua will be running through some of the key challenges that face start-up and early-stage business owners along with exploring the role and power of partnerships and fundraising effectively, before sharing practical tools & techniques to takeaway and implement within your own current or upcoming business venture.
Having previously run the NatWest Accelerator in Brighton, Joshua has led and delivered both 1-2-1 and group support sessions at scale to hundreds of individuals, including everyone from students to business owners through expertly delivered coaching sessions and workshops. Alongside this, he’s also managed a buzzing Entrepreneur Accelerator community, engaged and managed relationships with external partners and mentors, along with continuously looking to exceed the expectations of both the organisation and businesses of which he supports.

Martin Bouette
Dr Martin Bouette has been supporting creative businesses for over 20 years and has helped raise over £5million in grant funding to support creative business development. Funding has included large European funded projects, regional development grants, local government funding and specialist small business funding. Martin sees the importance of government funding to support new and innovative businesses as crucial to creative business start-up and to support business growth. In his talk Martin will discuss how to find develop and succeed in finding funding. He will outline the general requirements funders ask and what they will be looking for in the grant applications they receive.
Lucy Smith
Lucy has over ten years of project fundraising experience through grant applications and commissions. She also has experience assessing funding applications from her time working at the Arts Council England, South East. Lucy will share her strategic approach to fundraising via grants including how to build meaningful partnerships with stakeholders, finding ‘match funding’ and demonstrating that your project meets the funders requirements.
