Simple way to use Portrait and Landscape in same Word document
Just our quick techi tip for the day. With thanks to the University Service Desk for the instructions below.
The problem:
As students are putting together their assignments and submitting to Turnitin, because students can only submit a single file, they may need to merge separate Word documents in to one. This can get a little tricky where students are using different page orientations in different documents.
The solution:
Word have a simple and effective way to allow you to make different parts of your document either landscape or portrait without having to fiddle with the dreaded ‘section breaks’!
Put everything in one document and then change the orientation within it.
- Open a new Word file and copy ALL of the text from the other files in to it.
- You should now have everything in a portrait document.
- Now you can set the text you want to make landscape by following these instructions…
- Select the required text that needs to be landscape by highlighting it.
- On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click Margins. (see picture below)
6. Click Custom Margins and you’ll see the picture below pop up.
7. On the Margins tab, click Portrait or Landscape.
8. In the Apply to list, click Selected text..
This will take just the text you’ve selected and change those pages to landscape view. Repeat this process for all of the parts of the document you want to make landscape.
