There are a few author visits/reading festivals taking place in public libraries this month which are well worth going to.
Wordfest is currently underway at Crawley Library with a fantastic line-up of authors, illustrators and storytellers. Carnegie winner Geraldine McCaughrean is one of the authors speaking tomorrow at the family day and it is free to attend. Just book your place on the eventbrite website. Geraldine McCaughrean has written more than 170 books for both adults and children. Her childrens books include picture books, fiction and classic tales/traditional tales retold.
Vashti Hardy will visit Lewes Library on the 28th March at 11am to talk about her book Wildspark which is shortlisted for the East Sussex Children’s Book Award 2020. East Sussex Libraries have been running this award for 15 years and it is aimed at children in Year 5 and Year 6. Again, it is a free event but booking is advisable.
Author events are a terrific way to inspire children with their reading and introduce them to new stories. (and teachers/trainee teachers too!)
