It is interesting to see that 3 of the titles selected for the Carnegie Medal shortlist are written in verse. (The Poet X, Rebound and Long Way Down) The theme of freedom is found in many of the titles on both shortlists and a child’s sense of safety(or lack of safety) is also explored in some of the stories.
Reading resources for each of the shortlisted titles will soon be available on the CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway website. Shadowing groups will get to vote for their favourite shortlisted titles this year, with the winners receiving the inaugural Shadowers’ Choice Award.
The winners will be announced on Tuesday, 18th June, at an event which is taking place at the British Library. Good luck to all the shortlisted authors and illustrators!
