The Centre for Design History (CDH) seeks to appoint a Postgraduate Research (PGR) student as a Social Media Assistant to help us to further develop our social media presence to continue to enhance our profile and reach new audiences with a view to develop new partnerships and capture our research impact.
The Role
The successful candidate will be appointed as a Casual Worker at the University on a temporary contract, to be paid pro-rata at Grade 3 (please see the University’s salary scale and generic job descriptor for Grade 3 roles). It is expected that the post holder will work ad-hoc hours to be agreed with the CDH director, with an expectation of a committment of a minimum of 2 hours per week between February-September 2025, and with total pay for the contract not exceeding £1000 (inclusive of holiday pay).The post holder will be responsible for submitting time sheets directly to the People Department to initiate payments.

CDH has over 50 members including artists and designers, archivists and curators, activists and academics, from PhDs to Professors. With the support of the CDH Director and Administrator, we are looking to expand upon our blog, which includes announcements and reports on our activities, through the creation and commissioning of regular new content, and to align this with our social media presence (on Twitter X and Instagram @CDH_Brighton), including by possible expansion to other platforms.

Criteria:
* Current status as a Postgraduate Research student at University of Brighton
* Subject knowledge in design history (understood broadly to include visual and material culture, art, architecture, fashion, museum studies, etc)
* Excellent skills in written communication
* Ability to create, commission and edit high quality social media content
* Experience in managing social media accounts
* Commitment to diversity and to representing marginalised voices and perspectives
* Ability to work independently and in collaboration with academic and administrative staff
* Access to a laptop and internet (the role will be largely working from home)
