The Design Archives’ Preservation and Digital Resources Coordinator Sirpa Kutilainen will be presenting a paper at the International Council on Archives’ Section on University and Research Institutions Archives (ICA-SUV) conference, jointly organised with Conference of Archives of Spanish Universities (CAU – CRUE) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. This year’s theme, ‘Innovating University and Research Archives. Challenges Towards Sustainability’, addresses the challenges and perspectives university archives face in relation to issues like climate change and sustainability. The two-day event takes place in Barcelona, Spain from the 27-29 October.
In her paper, Sirpa will be discussing the ongoing sustainability project to shut down the Design Archives’ Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system in their environmentally controlled archive store, and how this work led her to initiate and develop the UK and Ireland -wide practice-sharing HVAC Shutdown Group, which she co-leads with Amy Sampson, Preservation Manager at The National Archives, England.
