Dr. Lampropoulos, Senior Lecturer, recently published a paper entitled “Developments in the use of Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete as strengthening material” in Engineering Structures (IP: 3.548) based on a collaboration with the University of Bolton.

Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete, UHPFRC , is concrete with the addition of steel fibres. The fibres provides greater ductility in tension and bending, as well as higher compressive and tensile strength. Dr. Lampropoulos’s work examines the application of fibre reinforced concrete as strengthening material, particularly looking at the interface between UHPFRC and normal concrete. Both experimental and numerical studies were carried out investigating the UHPFRC application in dowels and jackets. The results indicated that dowels could “eliminate the risk of premature de-bonding of the strengthening layer” and jackets would “dramatically increase of the stiffness and the load carrying capacity of the strengthened elements”.
