Journalism students in the Amex Stadium press box

Over the weekend, our Sport Journalism MA students had the unique opportunity to be in the press box at the American Express Community Stadium.

Their visit included a lecture in the Premier League team’s press box as part of the Sports Journalism Professional Practice module, and covering the Women’s Super League (WSL) match between Brighton & Hove Albion (BHAFC) and West Ham United.

Working alongside national reporters and course alumni like Tom Kelly (BHAFC video editor), the students produced a preview, on-the-whistle match report and then interviewed the managers as part of the dramatic 3-2 victory for the home side.

Sports Journalism MA course leader Owen Evans, said: “The student journalists were learning not only about the game but about the mechanics of sports journalism itself—how to work under pressure, how to manage tight deadlines, and how to adapt to the fast pace of live match reporting in a Premier League setting.”
