Geography PGCE visit to London

Trainee teachers studying at on the (Secondary) Geography PGCE recently spent a day in London visiting the Natural History Museum and the Royal Geographical Society.

The trainees had the opportunity to look around the Natural History Museum and plan an enrichment activity to engage more able pupils in the wider aspects of Geography, they developed a range of ideas linked to natural hazards, geology, biodiversity and climate change.   The aim was to plan extracurricular visits to further develop Geographical knowledge and understanding.

Later they had the opportunity to visit the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) where there was  a unique experience to visit the RGS archives and see maps and artefacts from past expeditions, dating back to the 1850’s.  In addition the RGS highlighted areas and resources that will support their future teaching careers.

The day helped to support the trainees to see how out of class opportunities will enhance pupils learning.
