ANDY VELLA
During the Vertical project, there were several talks from artists. Andy was the first one.
Majority of his works shown at the talks were related with music, lots of his works used as the album covers. His book covers were very eye-catching as well.
His works look very digital based, but there are lots of analogue details in there. Some of his calligraphies look like the ancient Egyptian writings to me.
Also, his artworks reminded me of the psychedelic lithography posters in 1960s.
It was really surprising to find that the cover for Stieg Larsson’s books were made by him. I really enjoyed the books and thought those covers really go well with the context of the book.
He said he used some of his accidents, failures as the starting points, and then made interesting outcomes with them. Since my assessment feedback emphasised the important of experiments, I think I should be brave as him to try different materials and styles.
