GEORGE HARDIE

GEORGE HARDIE

“…Fifty Odd Years.”

There was an exhibition of George Hardie’s works in Grand Parade.

Hardie is a graphic designer, illustrator and educator. He worked as a designer/illustrator for more than 50 years, making illustrations for clients around the world.

It was a great exhibition. Since his works are directly related with our course, it was really nice to feel the atmosphere of real art industries.

It seems like the ceramic is a very hip thing in art industry in the UK now. I always wonder how my artworks look like on the surface that is not flat.

He also has done some pattern designs.

I think this is my favourite display in this exhibition. I really enjoyed the sense of humour and there are cats! What else do I need?

This piece reminded me of the monoprint, building up different coloured layers to create different colours.

Also, it is interesting that in this image, the objects are black and their shadows are in colours, which is opposite in the real world.

I was quite surprised that his works can be such diverse. From simple water colour paintings to detailed liner printings.
