MARK MAKING

MARK MAKING

I always draw something rather than paint, and I do sketches with pencils so that I can erase the marks and fix them easily. I thought I should try making marks without any plans, to see those abstract and unexpected marks.

I started from familiar materials, the watercolour and coloured pencils. I put the brush without any plans. At the very first, I felt a bit nervous, but it was quite fun at the last. I liked how different colours are mixed and blended together, in a very subtle way.

After that, I moved on to acrylic colour, which I always found difficult to use. I tried not to use too much colours this time. I really liked the thick texture from acrylic colour, which cannot be found in water colour paintings. Also, it was a lo easier to leave brush marks when I was using acrylic colour.

This time, I tried to paint with my fingers, not brushes. It felt a bit weird, the texture from acrylic colour was like, the thicker toothpaste? By rolling my fingers on the surface, I was able to mix them. I put my fingerprints like stamps, which also made quite interesting marks.
