THE SECOND BOOK ART WORKSHOP

THE SECOND BOOK ART WORKSHOP

There was the second book art workshop. I really enjoyed the first one, so I was quite looking forward to it.

In this session, we have been introduced two new ways of book making. The first one was called Japanese binding and the second one was called section sewn.

Japanese Binding

  1. Line the paper
  2. Make 5 holes on the one edge
  3. Sew the holes

I have done this binding in my foundation course, and I used this method for all of my sketchbooks last semester. This one is quite secure and I find it quite easy to make because I don’t have to plan the pages before making. I just can gather all the pages I need and sew them together.

Section Sewn

  1. Fold the paper
  2. Divide them into 5 sections
  3. Make 6 holes on each sections
  4. Sew them
  5. Press them
  6. Glue the spine
  7. Put the covers

This one was more complicated than Japanese Binding. However, it was more secure as well. It is great for making a quite thick book.
