HYDE AND SEEK
by JIMIN KIM
A beautifully cutout picture book based on the idea : “a human personality cannot be defined as a single image, which means that human personality is a cluster of multiple personalities. “
This is a picture book made by a MA student at Kingston University. I found her work on the awarding list from It’s Nice That. I quite liked the book, and I was surprised that she is a Korean as well. I don’t think I am real Korean, since I left Korea when I was young, but it is still interesting to see someone from where I was born. I think where you were born and where you were raised are quite important for artists, because artists always show their cultures and thoughts in their artworks, even in humours in the artworks.
The book is so well planned and measured, the small cutouts interacts with each others so beautifully, not to mention the drawings. By looking through the same holes, audiences can play hide and seek with the character.
