TIM WALKER

He is a top fashion photographer working for clients all over the world such as Births and Italian Vogue. He is well known for his very British, fantastical and whimsical photo shoots.

The fantastical features in his photographs make them to look almost like scenes of fairy tales, which remind me of my childhood. In his previous artworks, like ‘Portrait of a Lady’ for Love Magazine and ‘Hot and Cool Issue 10’ for Various Editorials were a lot more gloomy than this series of photos, but they still remind me of my childhood.

 

I am a big cosmetic lover, and holiday period is really important for me, because there are lots of cosmetic brands launching their holiday editions.

This year, although there were tons of great collections from variety of brands, the Nutcracker Sweet collection from MAC captured my mind.

I was fascinated by the photographs above. The limitation in colours and strong contrasts were combined so well with the simple repeated patterns like dots, stripes and squares. Those photos looks so well organised, even though there are so vibrant colours in them. This worked very well for the advertising. Like in the first and second images, there are no cosmetic products appeared, but the whole images were powerful enough to appeal to customers, making them want to see the products.

However, I find it less attractive with the typo on the poster. It seems like the editor wanted to give some cracking mood on it, as this is the ‘nutcracker’ collection, but I think it makes the screen a bit messy. I think trying different typefaces or even reducing the size of it would work better. I know then it would be hard to be read, though.

I am looking forward to see the actual products soon.
