These were my first set of freckles test shots, I quite like the location, I really feel like it ties in well with the freckles as the walls have freckles of dirt all over. I tried black and white shots as it definitely brought out the freckles a lot more, but also Agata Serge’s photos were black and white so it gave me the inspiration to do it. I didn’t move forward with these photographs, although I liked the concept and the photographs I realised it wasn’t something I wanted to do as I hadn’t planned it out like I should have.

When I first saw these photographs I thought they were absolutely beautiful, and this is one of the many photographers that gave me inspiration to start my project the way I did. At the start, I was focusing on the beauty in women, and features that wouldn’t usually typically be seen as beautiful. I wanted to change the thoughts of others with my photography of these women, so I could show how beautiful these features really were.

My last photoshoot is about switching the roles and shooting a female on male gaze which are a set of photos shot in a way that men would but by a woman. I was trying to get a better understanding of the way men think when photographing women. For example photographing from over the top of them and looking down at the model gives a sense of weakness and insignificance. I was trying to copy Terry Richardsons style and techniques as he seems to know exactly how to objectify a woman and make her look weak. I made the model stare in the camera to exploit him for my own needs.

My fourth photoshoot had a rebel attitude with the model not making eye contact towards the camera many times. This suggests she isn’t encaging with the audience and exploiting the situation. I liked the location being in an empty squash court, it gives a sense of ‘I don’t need anyone to be happy. I’m strong and independent.’ I like the way this photoshoot turned out, it kind of tells a story which can be read in many ways. The colour palette here is cool with the reds and yellows too!

I wanted to compare the difference between male and female photographers, the difference in posing, accessories, makeup, clothing etc. Terry Richardson is known for photographing stuff for his own desire and needs. Photographing down on the person from above are interpreted as making that person look small and insignificant. The black and white photo with the women below the man is showing that she is less important then the man and being looked down upon. You will find most of Terry Richardsons photos with the female model below the male model. It’s a way to show you’re superior or the boss. The poses on the other hand has been made to be so sexualised when there is no need, the fact that the model is staring right into the camera at the viewer delivers a stronger message to the audience, seems as if she wants to be looked at. Terry Richardson has used the female models for visual pleasure completely objectifying them and using them like sexual objects.

For my third photoshoot, looking at photographers like Corinne day, Juno Calypso, Harley weir, Cass Bird and Petra Collins helped develop my concept and gave me plenty of inspiration. Shooting my model in underwear and a white cropped top suggested power against men and the attitude of not caring. We are here to disrupt the patriarchy and nothing else. I actually got inspiration to use white clothing from the film ‘the postman always rings twice’. This film is strongly focused on the male gaze, using a pretty girl in the film, using close-ups on her face and body suggesting the desire men have over her. Fetishistic scopophila is used in this film, this is the idea that the female figure is represented as a beautiful object of display. I want to show that displaying some skin shouldn’t be seen as sexual, and although the female in these photos is the main focus, we aren’t focusing on her body, we are focusing on her as a person.

I only just discovered Cass Bird in this research project and I am so happy I did. Her talent is crazy, she works so well with film and I will definitely be using more of Cass Bird for FMP. I love the way Cass Bird has represented the female body in a less artificial way, her photography is elegant yet artistic. Bird  claimed back the lens as a female photographer, and has come up with a whole new meaning of desire. You can tell how comfortable the models are with being nude, this comes down to the photographer.

I like to get my film photography inspiration from Corinne Day, I think her style is so cool and similar to what I like. Corinne Day’s photos are very pure and honest, capturing real life. Especially if the model is nude Day makes them feel very comfortable and content which is what the female gaze is all about. I was also drawn to the black and white photographs as this is something I want to work with possibly for my FMP.

This is pretty much a shoot for fashion inspiration from the grunge era. I had another photoshoot planned initially in a forest, but it was pouring with rain and the forest had flooded, and the clothes I ordered to style with didn’t arrive as it got lost in the post. The only fun place I could think of was the supermarket. I love the colour palettes I created in this shoot, a lot of pinks and reds and yellows. These photos also intertwine with the female gaze because of the angles of the camera. The camera was looking up at the model from below making her look powerful and superior.
