We are currently recruiting Student Helpers for the events below!

Autumn Open Days

We are looking for Helpers to assist with the delivery of our in person Summer open days:

This work is paid at a rate of £11.44 an hour (plus holiday pay), and you will be trained for the specific activity you will undertake on the day or days leading up to the event.

The dates for these open days are as follows:

  • City Campus – 12th October
  • City Campus – 9th November
  • Moulsecoomb Campus – 19th October
  • Moulsecoomb Campus – 23rd November
  • Falmer Campus – 16th November

If you are interested in helping with things like meet & greet, registration and subject advice desks, or if you live in halls and would like to provide tours of your accommodation, we want to hear from you! Register your interest to work at the open days here.

What’s involved?
At an open day the roles vary, but to give you an idea might involve helping set up, welcome visitors, give tours and pack up at the end. The training relates specifically to the event you are working at, and you would be expected to attend this every time you work (if asked).

What’s expected of me?
Most importantly, you need to be outgoing, friendly and proactive, and give a good impression of the university to all visitors! You also need to be reliable and punctual, commit to any shifts offered to you, and complete your role to the best of your ability, following directions from staff.

How much work will I get?
It’s important that you understand that you are just signing up to register your interest in working at the specific event and to receive information about ad-hoc / occasional shifts with our team if and when they are available in the future.

Sounds good – how do I sign up?
If you’re interested in working at any of the events above, please complete this form to add your details and availability.

You can also sign up to our mailing list here so we can email you about work opportunities in future. When we are looking for help, we will email out the details. This tends to happen in the run up to open days (and online open days) and Clearing (which takes place in August). Following this if we are able to give you a shift, we will confirm this by email. Please note we usually get a very large number of students interested in working as helpers so are not able to offer everyone work.

Please note this is just one of several potential ways to work for the University – you may also like to look at this page which has details of our SRO Student Ambassador job – a more on-going role with a competitive application/interview process. Other teams around the university may also employ students (we are not the only team working with Student Ambassadors) – you could also look at the advice on the Careers team pages, ask in your school office, or the Students Union.
