Anne Phoenix is Professor of Education at the Institute of Education, University of London. She has been a central figure in the development of qualitative & psychosocial approaches to the study of identity. She is best known for her work on racialised & gendered identities; masculinities; consumption; & the transition to motherhood. Her book Young Mothers? (1990) is a good example of how her work has consistently explored the intersection of psychological and social processes, whilst also questioning dominant assumptions about the nature & causes of ‘social problems’ & related identities.
