Experimenting with illustrations meant i learnt a new skill of working within Adobe illustrator and working with it as a pair alongside photoshop to create a more layered and colours effect i hoped for. The illustrations i have created were not free hand drawn but worked from photoshoot selection the important aspects to point out and which parts i wanted to stand out and pair with colour to create interesting visuals.  Many album artworks don’t contain the artists face so i wanted to try out ideas to have a graphic based design for artwork and i think the mix of illustration and colour could work well so this experimentation has enabled me to become confident in the technique, with using colour and capturing an image in illustration design.

I like the effect of the coloured line work on the hands illustration to make the jewellery stand out, making this one my strongest. However i also think the outlines of Jimin in the double denim outfit captures the vibe of the photoshoot from the use of colour within the clothing and adding the pink to the cheeks to showcase the femininity within him and the innocence of the original picture along side the contrast of the more sexy vibe given off from the slithers of skin shown from not having a t shirt on uder the jacket which i have made sure to showcase with the use of outlining the colour bone.

This skill is something i will carry on using through my FMP.

 

 

Week 3 Complete

This week I have spent a lot of time creating graphic pieces. I have spent a large amount of my time teaching myself how to use illustrator as this is not a programme I have used before. Although I has taken me some time to get to grips with how this works, I have really enjoyed learning the new skill and would like to spend week 4 developing my skills and experimenting more with different graphics for possible album art work and posters.

Next steps: Continue to develop skills and experiment in Illustrator.

Also need to keep in mind that my dissertation deadline is getting closer, i do not want to fall behind on this so sticking to my plan is important.

Looking into graphic design was  something  i haven’t  really touched upon within previous year,  so creating  this  content  was  completely  learning  a new  skill  for  me.   I  look  into  and  created  my own  ideas  for  album  art  work,  posters,  and  teaser  content.  I researched  into Korean  graphics  to  understand  the  difference  as advertisements  in South  Korea  are  different  to  what  someone  would  see  in  the  UK.  I am also  studying  the  Korean language  which  helps me  to  understand  what  formate  to  write  within  when  using  the  Korean  language  within the  images.  Using Adobe in design and photoshop to create the graphics again this increasing my skills set when it comes to Adobe as a whole platform.

Week 2 Complete

This week I have spent time deciding on the path for this project. I looked into an Album Release and a Store opening and decided on researching and experimenting with an album release. As you can see in my sketch book, I spent the summer doing research preparation while on my trip in South Korea. my love for the country, its culture and music influence has lead me to feel very excited to produce an Album release. Due to my dissertation topic being Korean fashion focused i’ve read and learned a lot through that and want to be able to but these things into practice.

Next steps: Look into areas of what an album release involves. For example – Album artwork,  advertisements, album schedule. As i’m a big music fan and follow K-pop artist content like this is stuff i regularly see on social media.

I am traveling home for the weekend this weekend so to stay on tack I need to make sure I have all I need to be able to work while I travel.

Album Release or Shop Opening ?

In second year I did a store opening for Simpsons Depart Store which I did well in, so I know I already have the skills to achieve this.

Music has always been my way into fashion and is something that i am very passionate about. The skills that i would use in the business plan for the store opening i could transfer to create an album release. However I feel choosing this path would push my more artist skills and allow me more chances to experiment.

My trip to South Korea formed a huge part of my base research for all areas across my final year at university. While i was out there i got to capture moments that i could use for inspiration from architecture, views, landmark, street fashion, advertisements and shops. I got to understand how the creative elements work in Korea and what is most popular and in demand. From this i am able to take something i love and use it within my work to create a project that i will be excited about from start to finish. It is also a great way for my to work within the mind space of Korean aesthetics and work practice as my goal after university it so study out their for my masters or work within their entertainment industry.

Week 1 Complete.

In my first week I have looked into different marketing ideas. I chose my specialism in Marketing in second year. I feel confident in the area and had lots of experience in my work placement as i helped with organisation of events such as fashion week and photoshoots while also putting together packs for the companies working with us. My potential ideas so far are: a Marketing campaign, Store Opening, Event Plan or an Album Realise.

Next steps: Decided on what area of marketing I want to use for my project and why ?

In week 2 I have work and a whole day out in London so I need to make sure I stay on track and focused in the time I have given myself for this project this week.

I Looked at WGSN to see what they had about Korean fashion.

One that popped up was called “Ultra Korea”

With the keys themes being

I went ahead and created my own boards to match the trends spotted by WGSN, capturing looks of Korean Idols on and off stage over the past couple years.  Looking at each theme individually. Korea has a way of styling fashion that is different to the west however its slowly starting to come across into American and the UK due to how popular k-pop has become. I believe the styles and trends that are new in the UK have  come across from South Korea. AS shown bellow from the collection of photos as these idols have been wearing these looks for the past couples of years to the present day. This style of clothing is something i would work with, I like the street style trends with a smart aspect with it. Working with the laters, cuts and accessories to create more striking looks.

Another board that took my interest was the “Punk Principles A/W 20/21: Jewellery Design Capsule.”

This one looked into the future trend of mens jewellery something i have admired for a while as think mens jewellery is looked past.

The key themes being:

The final one i looked into was the trend board for ‘Mens Tailoring”

Main themes being the following:

Many of these elements i had seen worn by the Korean idols i follow when they attend award shows, being dressed many different designers. Dior being one and the new collections by Kim Jones follow a lot of these themes creating a whole new market for Dior.

Mood boards looking at the album layout and content of albums from the k-pop genre. This style of album is something i am very aware of as its the style of music i listen to. The albums are collectable as many artists will have different versions of the album to display different content.   K-op albums include photo books (displayed like a look book to showcase the albums concept), Photocards (small picture of a member, different in each album – surprise) and posters. I would focus my album launch on this style of album as i believe with the content it allows me to show case a wider range of skills.

Kim Hee June is one of my favourite photographers due to his aesthetic that i think is so strong you can see its his work even when its from different sources. Having worked with idols, magazines and online content. I would use his work as strong source of inspiration for my work.
