Photoshoots

For this project I will be collaborating with non-binary knitwear designer Scar Kennedy. Scar’s work is centred around 3D sculptural felted textiles which emulate biological forms: nipples, barnacles and spines. This particular collection I will be photographing being called Selkies and Merrows which is inspired by Irish mythical sea creatures which can undergo metamorphosis. Above are some moodboards I have made inspired by each of the garments Scar has sent me, acting as a plan for how each shoot will look. These two dresses I feel fit perfectly with my scientific and biological theme as to me they give of connotations of bacteria or cells due to their circular forms.

For the photography style I am heavily inspired by this Charles Jeffrey – Loverboy campaign shot by Tim Walker. When talking about this shoot Charles Jeffrey explained that :

“We deliberately kept the set-up quite free of set or bells-and-whistles outside of these gorgeous adorned bodies. People weren’t cast as ‘characters’ other than themselves – it’s a very real treatment.” – Charles Jeffrey

I like this approach to the campaign, by stripping it all back to the basics and shooting in the studio on a white backdrop, it makes the main focus about the garments and the bodies. This is something that I plan to do within my shoots, I think that the garments created by Scar are so strong that I want them to speak for themselves and then editing or changing them can be done in post production.
