Blue Utopian Set

For this set i wanted to make a fully blue set as the final of the set of three, with an underwater theme. For the theme of this set i was inspired by both Alexander McQueen’s Plato’s Atlantis runway show and Iris Van Herpen’s sensory seas runway collection. For the structure of the set i was inspired by Verner Panton, who is an interior designer that creates futuristic looking spaces. The particular one i was inspired by was the one called Visiona in  1970 as it was a set that had free flowing, more rounded shapes to create a sphere shaped room. I wanted to recreate this structure so i created different layers that were more rounded and free flowing, with a pillar in the middle that the runway comes out from. I like how the final came out as i feel it really portrays what i was trying to portray, looking like an underwater world or cave.

This was the final set up for the last blue set with an underwater world theme. For this final set i ended up carving put 4 layers from cardboard that i then painted the different shades of blue. To recreate Verner Panton’s architectural style i cut each layer into more circular, rounded, free flowing shapes that i then placed separately to create depth with the pillar in the middle which i then had the runway curving out from behind this pillar. For the under lighting i again used the lightbox and used blue tracing paper to diffuse this harsh lighting. I then also used my ringlight in order to light the set up from the front to get a clear image of the model, which i got from Iris Van Herpen’s sensory sea’s collection.

Final edits i made from the blue sets.
